To do or not to do …

A wealth of recreational opportunities awaits you. Whether you prefer active or relaxing pastimes and whether you like your fun on land or on water, the Conference & Retreat Center has something to offer. Some facilities, such as Copeland Community Center, require prior approval. Others, like the outdoor pool and river activities, may be seasonal in nature, so please always inquire about their availability and any additional cost prior to your visit.

Why does the river look like tea?

The Suwannee River is considered a wild blackwater river. It is about 266 miles long and empties into the Gulf of Mexico. A blackwater river (as opposed to a whitewater river) is a river with a deep, slow-moving channel that flows through forested swamps and wetlands. As vegetation decays in the water, tannins are leached out, resulting in a river that resembles tea or coffee.
